Foursquare Philippines Assists Those in Need After Typhoon Strikes Area
Four earthquakes and a typhoon have rocked Asia in the past month causing massive destruction and damage to numerous Foursquare churches, church members' homes, and a Foursquare Bible college. For our latest update, visit FMI's Prayer Force Update.
Typhoon "Ondoy" struck Manila, Philippines, dumping a month's worth of rain in one morning and causing the worst flooding in Manila in 40 years. About 80 percent of the city was submerged, killing hundreds and displacing an estimated 300,000 people.
Four evacuation centers were established by Foursquare Philippines to assist those in need. Many Foursquare members have lost their homes, but we can rejoice that no lives have been lost in the Foursquare community. Three "Children of Hope" Foursquare churches and preschools planted by Eastside Foursquare Church in Bothell, Wash., were flooded, and everything except the walls were lost.
Many other Foursquare churches have suffered damage. Foursquare Philippines national leader Valentin Chaves, Foursquare missionaries Bryant and Patty Sabandal, and Pastor Matt Messner from Eastside Foursquare are working together to provide a complete assessment. The water has subsided but many areas are still under water, and two more typhoons forming off the coast threaten to bring more destruction.
National Leader Valentin Chaves writes: "That was the first time I have experienced such a flood. Metro Manila was flooded. Many Foursquare people have been affected. They lost most of their things. My car was totally submerged and we might lose our refrigerator and washing machine. The water inside our living room was up to my shoulders. There is mud everywhere and is beginning to smell bad. God is good for He has protected us. He will also provide the needs of the people. God bless you and thank you for your continuous prayer."

- Intercede on behalf of our Foursquare pastors and church members in these areas and pray for their wisdom and protection in the days and weeks ahead.
